Physiotherapy treatment given for quadriplegia due to fracture of C5, C6 and T1 vertibrae.
Treatment given-
  • When the treatment started patient was completely bed ridden. He was unable to move his limbs and also turn in the bed. He has Trachiostomy done and had bed sore on both the buttocks. 
  • He was given-
  • Ppassive movements to all four limbs to reduce joint stiffness.
  • Muscle stimulation to wrist and ankle to establish muscle contraction and strengthened innerveted muscles. 
  • Breathing exercises to prevent pulmonary complications. 
  • Training to turn in the bed, sit in the bed and stand out of the bed with the help of relatives. 
  • After three months of treatment, he was able to move his elbows. Wrists and ankle joints. 
  • He could balanced his body in sitting for two to three minutes without support and for ten minutes with support. 
  • The activities regained due to physiotherapy also helped him to reduce bed sores. 
Prognosis -
He requires wheel chair for his mobility and support from relatives for measure of his daily activities through out of his life. He needs physiotherapy treatment and advice to prevent associated complications.

Occupation : Student.
Treatment given for Spina Bifida [Syringomyelia]. 
She was operated on day one and at the age of five years for decompression of the nerve supplying lower limbs. She is monoplegic with paralysis of left leg and no bowel and bladder control.
Treatment given-
  • Her physiotherapy started at three months of age with passive movements of all four limbs for prevention of spasticity of lower limb muscles and joint contracture. 
  • Exercises were taught to mother and continued at home. Later her physiotherapy was continued at GMC for one year and then was discontinued for one year after that. Because of discontinuation of physiotherapy, child developed stiffness of both the knees, ankles and feet. 
  • Her physiotherapy started again with us from July 2016. Her treatment started with passive movements and stretching of lower limbs to reduce stiffness. 
  • She was given stimulation for strengthening of quadriceps muscle and extensors of ankle of right leg. She was adviced to ware push knee splint and ankle foot orthosis for reduction of knee and ankle stiffness. 
  • Strengthening of upper limbs also was started for enableing her to propel her body with the help of walker. Her walking training started with the help of caliper and walker after three months. 
    Prognosis-She  needs life long physiotherapy to tackle various associated problems.
